Friday: Call the Shots: The Female Power Through Film

Visit the TIFF Bell Lightbox this Friday for a celebration of Italian-Canadian women. The Italian Contemporary Film Festival is holding this event in honour of women who have immigrated to Canada. The night will consist of a Q&A session featuring four inspirational Italian-Canadian women followed by a screening of 7 Minutes. The film tells the true story of 11 women tasked with deciding the future of their textile factory. The Government of Canada will be funding this event and making it free to all women under the age of 35. So, why not support women in film and drop by the TIFF Bell Lightbox this Friday night?

 Saturday: All-Night Dance Party

Luckily, Secret Society and Geary Avenue Warehouse Project have our backs covered. This Saturday they will be hosting an all-night dance party, and by all-night, I mean all-night because the party doesn’t end until 8:00 a.m. The party is held at the Geary Avenue Warehouse giving it that exciting underground vibe. This event is BYOB so make sure to pick up some drinks for the communal bar beforehand or else you’ll be asked to make a monetary donation. Bartenders are provided so if you don’t know how to mix your favourite cocktail you don’t have to worry. If this sounds like your kind of night, pick up your leg-warmers, headbands and leotards and prepare to dance!

Where:
209 Geary Avenue

Whatever your taste, The Toronto Downtown Record Show has something to offer you. The show is back once again, taking place on Broadview Avenue, and featuring over 100 different tables to grab from. But wait…are you worried about spending too much to satisfy every aspect of your musical interests? Spotlight On: The Hogtown Pub and Oysters

The Hogtown Pub is one of the best date night places in the city. Conveniently located directly across the street from the Royal Cinema and just a short walk from Christie station, a date at The Hogtown Pub basically plans itself. Dark wood tables and booths, as well as stained glass lamps, give a warm and homey feel to the restaurant. Plus the low music and attentive staff ensure that this pub is a wonderful place to chat about your day with someone you care about.

They serve a gastropub menu and offer extensive wine and liquor lists as well as several local craft beers. However, the real selling point of this restaurant is not its drinks but its cheap oysters. Costing only a dollar fifty per oyster on Tuesdays and Thursdays makes this place one of the cheapest in the city. But don’t let the low prices scare you, The Hogtown Pub’s oysters are always fresh and always delicious.

Other menu items that I highly recommend include the Smoked Duck Tacos which is topped with lemon aioli, purple cabbage, carrot slaw and pickled red onion to make this not only a tasty treat but also a beautiful one.  The Beer Battered Fish & Chips are always fried to perfection and their cider slaw is a fun twist on a classic side dish. Finally, what meal would be complete without dessert? There are average desserts available likes sundaes, cakes and apple crumble but what everyone visits The Hogtown Pub for is their Deep Fried Mars Bars. Not only are the delicious chocolate bars battered and deep fried but they are also served with vanilla ice cream and a mixed berry coulis. Regardless of how the rest of your date went, this dessert is bound to leave an excellent final impression.

For all the ladies who want to look their best at our Friday event, listen up! Plush lips pair well with every look so just enhance your natural look with a swipe of peachy lip gloss like Revlon’s Super Lustrous lip gloss in the shade Pango Peach. This light-reflecting gloss is natural enough for every day and doesn’t leave your lips with that sticky “ick” feeling.
